Harbor View House celebrates 40 years of Changing LivesHarbor View House of San Pedro will present its second 'Changing Lives' Dinner and Auction fundraiser, May 10th, 2008. Harbor View House is the largest residential care and nursing facility in the State of California. Funds raised will be used to carry on the organizations continuing efforts to promote the independence of those suffering from mental illness and reduce the stigma associated with it.
The dinner, with the theme ‘Forty Years of Changing Lives’ to be held at 6:00 pm in the Norris Pavilion at the Norris Center for the Performing Arts and will feature cuisine from Restaurant Christine of Torrance, a silent and live auction, outsider art display and sales and musical entertainment.
Funds raised will support Harbor View’s Transitional Housing Program. This program is designed to assist those who have severe and persistent mental illness transition from a more traditional institutional living environment to a more independent setting and integrate into the community. Funds will be used to construct space at Harbor View House for two "mock apartments" with kitchen and dining area. Along with being responsible for their apartment, potential candidates will learn sanitation, cooking, money management and coping and socialization skills. Vernon Gettys, CEO of HealthView, Inc the parent company of Harbor View House, states the goal is to raise monies to help provide the tools they need to achieve their greatest potential.
